SITUATION/PROBLEM:
"Our Credo" is the basis of the philosophy and ethical values of J&J Company. It lists the principles which every employee of the company should follow. This is the document which contains the description of the company values and company’s responsibility towards all stakeholders. The Credo is the base for all decision making in the company and his is why it is important to conduct an on-going monitoring how those rules are followed and executed.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION/SOLUTION:
Credo Survey
The
Credo Survey Process aims at diagnosing whether the responsibilities and values resulting from them are applied in every subsidiary and every department of J&J. A periodic audit takes place every 2 years. Its objective is to see how employees understand the content of the document and how the values it talks about are realised. The full cycle of the survey consists of several stages:
Communication addressed to the employees;
Conducting the survey (an on–line version, employees answer several dozen questions relating to specific item in the Creed;
after every survey there is time and opportunity to express one’s opinions and comments which could help to make the process more efficient);
Conducting a statistic analysis by an outside company and compiling a report about the entire company with detailed focus on particular departments.
Final results are presented to the board managers. Those results are the basis for action and implementation plans answering the suggestions and conclusions from the survey.
Pay-roll giving – a way to implement the values of the company
Within the framework of the program employees voluntarily declare percentage of their remuneration for chosen social projects. The company promotes such attitudes by adding 100% of the sum declared by an employee from its own budget.At present, the collective program concerns 80% of all employees working for J&J Poland. The accumulated funds allowed to organise over 10 project groups of direct help for those in need, such as purchase of specialised rehabilitation equipment, giving out meals for the poorest or organising rehabilitation camps for children with chronic diseases. Employees get involved in the specific projects, and also participate in the work of
The United Way Foundation which cooperates closely with J&J.
BENEFITS:
- Creating high organisational culture in the company;
- Highly motivated employees, involvement in the realisation of work-related projects;
- Potential employees perceive J&J as the company sensitive to social needs;
- Opportunity of realizing one’s competences in various fields of J&J activity, also that outside of business.
CHALLENGES:
- Mass participation of employees in the program of the salary deduction. The company tries to convince employees to this form of social involvement by active communication and by building a culture of social responsibility. Its efforts are greatly supported by The United Way Foundation.
WORTH REMEMBERING:
- Pay-roll fund is an easy form of social involvement that does not require great effort, preparation or costs and which in time changes more smoothly into more active participation. It also creates a basis for building a particular corporate culture.
- It is important to be cautious about the voluntary character of one's involvement.
